More than 80% of overland freight from China to Europe passes through Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan continues to strengthen its role as a key transit link between China and Europe. According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin, more than 80% of overland freight transported from China to Europe passes through Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan’s importance for international logistics is growing alongside the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor). In 2024, freight volumes along the route increased by 60% to 4.5 million tonnes. The target is to increase this figure to 10 million tonnes by 2030.

The development of Kazakhstan’s transit potential creates new opportunities not only for rail and maritime transport, but also for road freight, logistics operators, manufacturers of commercial vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, as well as providers of telematics and digital solutions.

Freight traffic between Kazakhstan and China is also showing positive growth. In the first half of 2026, the volume of freight transportation between the two countries reached 18.66 million tonnes, up 9.2% year-on-year. Container transit through Kazakhstan increased by 10.4% during the same period.

These trends point to growing demand in the transport and logistics market for infrastructure, modern commercial vehicles, fleet management technologies and solutions designed to improve freight transportation efficiency.

These are also key areas of focus for Comtrux Astana and SCALEX Astana 2027, taking place on 9–11 June 2027 at EXPO in Astana.

SCALEX will bring together transport and logistics industry professionals to discuss the development of international routes, transit, infrastructure, digitalisation and new business opportunities.
