On August 2, Kazakhstan celebrates Railway Workers' Day, honoring the professionals who keep the country's rail network moving every day and play a vital role in economic growth and regional connectivity.
Railways remain one of the key pillars of Kazakhstan's transport system, linking regions across the country and strengthening trade routes between Europe and Asia. Today, the sector is undergoing one of its largest modernization programs in recent years.
According to the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, more than 750 km of new railway lines are currently under construction. The ambitious initiative aims to increase the capacity of the national railway network, improve freight transportation, and enhance passenger mobility.
By the end of the year, construction is expected to be completed on the Moyynty–Kyzylzhar and Darbaza–Maktaaral railway sections. At the same time, modernization works are underway on an additional 3,000 km of railway tracks, while more than 120 railway stations are being renovated. The Ministry of Transport describes this as the largest railway station modernization program since Kazakhstan gained independence.
The continued development of railway infrastructure will strengthen Kazakhstan's position as a major transit hub, improve international transport corridors, and create new opportunities for logistics companies, freight operators, and businesses.
